A microgrid aero turbine operator ensures the safe and efficient operation of turbines, vital for electricity generation. Key Responsibilities

• Microgrid Control & Load Balancing: Monitor the facility’s electrical demand via SCADA/HMI, adjusting turbine output to manage "Peak Shaving" or "Zero-Export" requirements. Execute seamless transitions between utility-connected mode and island-mode during grid failures. Maintain precise frequency (isochronous control) and voltage stability when the facility is disconnected from the grid. Monitor the interplay between gas turbines, backup diesel generators, and Battery Energy Storage Systems to optimize efficiency and response time. Perform high-voltage switching operations to isolate buses or feeders for maintenance.

• Turbine & Thermal Operations: Start, stop, and monitor gas turbines, tracking vibration, exhaust spreads, and bearing temperatures. Operate Heat Recovery Steam Generators or hot water loops to capture turbine exhaust heat for the facility’s chilling or heating needs. Monitor Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems to ensure NOx/CO compliance with local environmental permits.

• Plant Rounds & First-Line Maintenance: Conduct hourly rounds of the energy center, inspecting fuel gas compressors, lube oil skids, and water treatment systems. Perform filter changes (air/fuel/oil), swap pumps, and manage chemical feed rates for cooling towers or boiler water. Take samples of lube oil and cooling water for testing; interpret results to detect early equipment wear.

• Emergency Response: Demonstrate capability to perform a "Black Start" (restoring power without external grid assistance) during total facility blackouts. Diagnose trips or alarms on VFDs, PLCs, and motor starters, coordinating with I&C technicians for repairs.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma/GED.

Experience: 4+ years of experience in power plant operations, central utility plants, or naval engineering (Nuclear/Gas Turbine). Specific experience with Cogeneration (CHP) or Combined Cycle systems.

Technical Skills:

• Deep understanding of electrical theory (Volts, Amps, VARs, Frequency, Droop vs. Isochronous control).
• Proficiency with building automation systems (BAS) or industrial SCADA.

The Mechanical Field Engineer will be responsible for interfacing between the cross-functional engineering groups and the construction site team. The Electrical Field Engineer is the primary technical resource for the electrical construction team on a major power or substation project.

You are responsible for ensuring that the electrical installation—from underground duct banks to high-voltage switchgear—complies with the engineering design, NEC codes, and project specifications. You manage the flow of technical information, create work packages for the crews, resolve design conflicts (RFIs), and oversee the quality of the installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Execution & Work Planning: Create "Work Packages" or "Lift Drawings" for the electrical crews. Break down complex cable schedules into daily pull lists to ensure the foremen have the exact info they need. Manage the Cable Schedule. You must track every cable pull, ensuring the correct footage is cut, the correct cable type is used, and the routing (tray/conduit) matches the design. Perform look-aheads to verify that commodities (conduit, fittings, wire, cable tray) are on-site. If the crews run out of 2-inch flex conduit, it’s your job to have ordered it two weeks ago.

• Design Resolution: Identify design conflicts in the field. Draft and submit Requests for Information to the design engineering firm to propose solutions. Create red-line sketches to direct the crews on how to route conduit around obstacles while staying compliant with bend radius and fill ratio codes.

• Quality Control & Testing Oversight: Walk down installations prior to conduit pours (duct banks) to verify rebar grounding, conduit spacing, and hold-downs. Coordinate with the testing subcontractor to schedule Megger, Hi-Pot, and VLF testing on cables. Ensure test results are reviewed and filed immediately. Ensure installations meet NEC (NFPA 70) requirements, specifically checking support spacing, grounding bonding, and cable separation rules.

• Progress Tracking & As-Builts: Measure and report installed quantities weekly (e.g., linear feet of tray, number of terminations) to support the project's Earned Value/Progress payments. Maintain a "live" set of Red-Line drawings. Every time a conduit route changes in the field, you must mark it up to ensure the final "As-Built" drawings are accurate.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management.

Experience: 2-5 years of field experience in heavy industrial or electrical construction. Familiarity with Cable Schedules (software or Excel-based). Basic understanding of NEC codes.

The Combined Cycle Control Room Operator is the "Pilot" of a high-efficiency power station. Operating from a central Distributed Control System, you are responsible for the safe start-up, operation, and shutdown of Gas Turbine Generators, Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and Steam Turbine Generators.

Unlike simple cycle plants, you manage two thermodynamic cycles simultaneously. You must balance the rapid response of the gas turbines with the thermal inertia of the steam cycle, ensuring grid demand is met while maintaining strict environmental compliance and steam chemistry limits.

Key Responsibilities

• Plant Operations & Grid Synchronization: Execute cold, warm, and hot start-ups. You will accelerate the Gas Turbine to full speed, synchronize to the grid, and gradually warm the HRSG and Steam Turbine to manage thermal stress. Respond to Automatic Generation Control signals from the ISO/Dispatcher, ramping megawatt output up or down to chase renewable energy fluctuations or meet peak demand. • Steam Cycle & HRSG Management: Critical management of HRSG drum levels (HP/IP/LP). You must balance feedwater flow against steam production to prevent "carryover" (water entering the turbine) or "burnout" (tubes running dry). Control attemperators and steam bypass valves to maintain precise superheat and reheat temperatures. Monitor the Air Cooled Condenser or surface condenser to ensure optimal backpressure (vacuum), which directly impacts plant efficiency (Heat Rate).

• Environmental Compliance: Actively manage the Selective Catalytic Reduction and CO catalysts. You will adjust Ammonia injection rates to keep NOx levels within the tight limits of the air permit. Monitor Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems data. You are authorized and obligated to take corrective action—up to and including tripping the unit—if emissions limits are threatened.

• Shift Leadership & Safety: Direct the activities of the Auxiliary Operators via radio, instructing them to perform valve lineups, inspect equipment, or take local chemistry samples. Act as the primary clearance holder. You will develop and issue Lock-Out/Tag-Out boundaries to safely isolate high-energy systems for maintenance. The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient daily operation of the facility. This role performs assigned routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision and directs the daily operational activities of all shift personnel, including field equipment operators and support drivers.

Job Summary 

The Coal Control Room Operator is the primary authority responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a multi-unit coal-fired steam electric generating station.

Operating from a central Distributed Control System, you will manage the entire Rankine Cycle: from the coal yard to the switchyard. This involves coordinating the pulverization of fuel, managing high-pressure super-critical or sub-critical boilers, operating steam turbines, and overseeing complex Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems to ensure strict environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Boiler & Fuel Management: Monitor and adjust coal feeders and pulverizers (ball mills/bowl mills) to ensure proper fuel fineness and flow rates to the burners. Actively manage air-to-fuel ratios, burner tilt, and damper positions to maintain stable fireball combustion and optimal furnace exit gas temperatures. Control feedwater flow and firing rates to maintain critical steam drum levels, superheat temperatures, and reheat pressures. Execute sootblowing sequences (cleaning ash from boiler tubes using high-pressure steam) to maintain heat transfer efficiency and prevent slag build-up.

• Turbine-Generator Operations: Execute turbine roll, heat soak, and synchronization to the electrical grid. Ramp megawatt output up or down based on Automatic Generation Control signals or dispatcher requests. Continuously track turbine vibration, bearing temperatures, and seal oil systems to detect early signs of mechanical distress.

• Environmental Systems: Manage the Flue Gas Desulfurization system, regulating limestone slurry injection to remove Sulfur Dioxide (SO2). Operate Electrostatic Precipitators or Baghouses, adjusting T-R sets (Transformer-Rectifiers) to ensure opacity remains clear. Control Ammonia injection in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. Monitor Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems data in real-time; you have the authority and obligation to derate or trip the unit if emissions limits are threatened.

• Plant Coordination & Safety: Direct the actions of Outside Operators (Auxiliary Operators) to perform local valve alignments, clear coal feeder jams, or inspect bottom ash systems. React immediately to tube leaks, loss of vacuum, or unit trips, executing "Safe Park" procedures to protect capital equipment. Serve as the primary isolation authority, issuing Lock-Out/Tag-Out clearances for maintenance on high-energy systems.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma/GED.

Experience: 5+ years of power plant experience, typically progressing from Coal Yard to Ash Handler to Auxiliary Operator to CRO. Proven experience with DCS platforms (Emerson Ovation, ABB Bailey, Foxboro, or Siemens T3000).

Technical Knowledge:

• Deep understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
• Knowledge of coal characteristics (BTU content, moisture, sulfur) and how they affect combustion.
• Expert knowledge of LOTO and Confined Space procedures.

The Owner's Representative serves as the on-site eyes, ears, and voice of the Project Owner/Developer.

You are the fiduciary guardian of the project. You do not manage the construction crews directly; instead, you manage the Contract and the Contractor. You ensure that the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contractor delivers the facility according to the technical specifications, schedule, and budget. You are the single point of truth for investors and stakeholders, cutting through the noise to report the actual status of the project.

Key Responsibilities

• EPC Oversight & Contract Administration: Rigorously administer the EPC contract. Ensure the contractor adheres to all exhibits, including the Scope of Work, Approved Equipment List, and Quality Management Plan. Review and critique the contractor’s Primavera P6 schedule monthly. Identify "hidden float," logic errors, or realistic threats to the Guaranteed Substantial Completion Date. Maintain the project Risk Register. Proactively identify issues (e.g., "The turbine delivery is delayed," or "Permit X is expiring") and force the EPC to develop mitigation plans.

• Commercial & Financial Management: Audit monthly payment requests. Physically walk the site to verify that the "Percent Complete" claimed by the contractor matches the actual physical progress before releasing funds. Aggressively manage Change Orders. Validate whether a cost increase is truly an "unforeseen condition" or if it falls under the contractor's risk profile. Negotiate costs downward. Manage the Owner’s side of the budget, including "Soft Costs" (permits, legal fees, land leases) and contingency funds.

• Quality Assurance & Technical Validation: Oversee the Owner’s Engineer and third-party inspectors. Ensure they are performing random spot checks on concrete, welding, and electrical terminations. Issue Non-Conformance Reports when work does not meet the Owner’s Project Requirements. Refuse to accept systems until deficiencies are corrected. Witness critical startup milestones (e.g., First Fire, Hydro-tests, Performance Tests) to ensure the data is accurate and not manipulated.

• Stakeholder & Permit Management: Draft the Weekly and Monthly Executive Reports. Provide clear, unvarnished updates on budget, schedule, and safety to the Board of Directors or Lenders. Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal permits (e.g., CUP, SWPPP, Air Permits). Handle relations with local landowners and municipal officials.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business.

• Experience: 10+ years of experience in heavy industrial construction or power generation. 3+ years acting as an Owner’s Rep, Asset Manager, or Senior Project Manager for an EPC. Deep understanding of EPC Contracts (Liquidated Damages, Force Majeure, Warranty).

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency with Primavera P6.
• Understanding of Project Finance (Draw schedules, Lien waivers).

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day safe operation of all onsite equipment and safety systems while following established Environmental, Health & Safety Standards to achieve an accident and injury-free safe work environment. This role oversees the starting, stopping, and continuous monitoring of the plant to ensure a reliable power supply to the customer(s).

The Shift Supervisor ensures the facility operates in accordance with OEM and company guidelines, managing operational activities and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. This position includes a two-month training period prior to beginning regular shift rotations.

Qualifications

2nd Class Massachusetts Stationary Engineers license is mandatory for this role. Technical Skills:

Their primary function is to ensure the natural gas-powered reciprocating engines run smoothly to meet specific production or service requirements. As a natural gas recip operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of NG-powered reciprocating internal combustion engine units. • Control Room & Panel Operations: You will execute engine start-up sequences, synchronize to the grid, and manage load ramping according to dispatch orders. Performance monitoring is critical, requiring you to closely track parameters on the SCADA/HMI, specifically Exhaust Gas Temperatures (for balancing cylinder temperatures), Knock Sensors (for monitoring pre-ignition/detonation signals), and the Air/Fuel Ratio (for optimizing emissions and efficiency). • Gas Fuel System Management: Managing the gas input involves meticulous Gas Conditioning; specifically, you will monitor and adjust the Fuel Gas Skid, including scrubbers, heaters, and pressure regulation valves, to ensure the delivery of dry, clean gas to the engine. Critical safety checks include verifying the operation of the Gas Valve Unit safety shut-off valves and its integrated leak detection systems. Continuous safety monitoring is also required, necessitating the tracking of Lower Explosive Limit sensors and performing routine handheld "sniffer" checks to detect methane leaks in the engine hall.

• Field Inspections & Routine Maintenance: Ignition Systems: Assist in the replacement and regapping of spark plugs and inspection of ignition coils/wires (a high-frequency maintenance task on gas engines). Top-End Checks: Inspect valve lash and rocker arm lubrication systems. Fluids: Manage daily consumption of lube oil and coolant; perform oil sampling for analysis. Emissions Systems: Monitor the Selective Catalytic Reduction and Oxidation Catalyst systems, managing Urea/Ammonia injection rates to control NOx levels.

• Safety & Compliance: Maintain high vigilance for gas accumulation; understand Class 1 Div 2 hazardous area requirements. Perform Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures on high-pressure gas lines and electrical breakers. Complete Hot Work permits with extreme caution due to the presence of combustible gas.

• Operational Oversight: Operates and maintains the Power Generation Facility, handling daily routines such as water treatment, equipment inspections, and log sheet readings while maintaining an electronic logbook of all activities.

• Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnoses plant process abnormalities and alarms using historical trends; performs troubleshooting on equipment to make minor adjustments or submits work requests to maintenance as required.

• Safety & Compliance: Issues safety work permits and performs lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, including testing for voltage and applying grounding devices, to ensure a safe environment for all personnel.

Familiarity with Cat EMCP 4.3 and AGC-4 controllers for load sharing and monitoring, and utilizing Cat ET (Electronic Technician) software for diagnostics is required. Experience with DCS, Gas Insulated Switchgear, and Gas Turbine technology is a plus.
