Tube Welder

 

Job Summary 

The Tube Welder is responsible for the day-to-day safe execution of high-pressure welding activities and the maintenance of structural safety systems while following established Environmental, Health & Safety Standards to achieve an accident and injury-free safe work environment. This role ensures all welding activities adhere to strict quality control standards and technical specifications designed to deliver reliable, leak-free power assets to the customer.

The Tube Welder plays a critical role during the construction, installation, and maintenance phases of power generation facilities, ensuring that all pressure parts and piping networks are fabricated in strict accordance with OEM and APS guidelines.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Precision Welding: Performs high-pressure tube and pipe welding utilizing specialized techniques (such as TIG and Stick) on various metallurgies to support the installation, repair, and commissioning of power plant boiler systems and auxiliary piping.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Inspects and diagnoses weld joint preparation abnormalities, alignment deviations, and material defects using historical trends and technical drawings to make minor adjustments before welding.
  • Safety & Permitting: Adheres strictly to proper LOTO procedures, Confined Space entry requirements, and Hot Work permitting guidelines to ensure individual and team safety across the facility.
  • Quality Documentation: Maintains a precise record of weld logs, filler material heat numbers, and inspection results to be submitted to quality management as required.

 

 

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and have previous work experience in operating, maintaining, or constructing Power Generation Facilities. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter with a strong desire to learn and weld within strict tolerance limits under code-specified procedures. Welders must pass all required site-specific welding performance qualification tests (such as ASME Section IX) prior to performing production work. 

 

Technical Skills:

Requirements

  • Travel: Ability to travel 75% to 100% of the time, often on short notice, to project sites globally, sometimes for extended durations.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.  
  • Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to complete multiple projects within time constraints.  
  • Strong organizational skills.  
  • Valid jurisdictional driver license.  
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.  
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.  
  • Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by the corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.

 

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Job Requirements

Experience needed: 5 + years of experience working in a power plant / boiler environment as a boiler tube welder. Must have current TWIC. Weld test at site.
